Founding Counselor 2026-27
This role provides comprehensive student support services focused on social-emotional development, academic success, and high school readiness for middle school students. Responsibilities include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and risk assessments, restorative practices, mandated IEP counseling services, psychoeducational evaluations, and the development of behavior and intervention plans in collaboration with teachers and student support teams. The role also supports academic skill-building and leads high school readiness programming, including high school selection, applications, and family workshops. In partnership with school leadership and staff, this position contributes to schoolwide social-emotional programming, professional development, family engagement, and response-to-intervention efforts, while maintaining required documentation and case records. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support student well-being and the overall mission and operations of the school.
- Masters in Social Work or School Counseling;
- Appropriate New York State Certification which can include Licensed Mental Health Counselor, School Counselor, and Social Worker;
- Certification or demonstrated experience in play-based therapy;
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in schools and multilingual settings, serving as a counselor or social worker, preferably middle school education;
- Demonstrated ability in holding successful individual and group sessions with students;
- Experience in social emotional learning curriculum, preferably restorative justice practices, play-based therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy;

- Be a person of high moral character; and
- Be passionate about learning.
